Play-dancing and stimulating dance activities for the very young. Includes rhythmic training, coordination, Ballet basics and terminology. Problem solving through movement and lots of dance-a longs and games. 45 minutes
Combination Class-Jazz and Ballet
C1-C1A-C2-C3 Ages K thru 2nd grade
Kindergarten through 2nd grade begin to introduce commercial music with jazz technique, why still including our Ballet ABC’s to develop strong bones and muscles. This is the start of keeping interest while being open to new styles of dance.
Ballet and Pointe
B1 thru B9 – Ages 3rd grade and Up
Serious technical training begins upon development of complete network of nerves, muscles and bones. If student has no previous dance experience, they child will start in Ballet 1. If alumni of the pre-ballet and combination classes (see above) curriculum, the student will go into Ballet 2. Once in Ballet 3 the student is encouraged to attend 2 classes a week to prepare for Pointe shoes. Many factors determine a student’s readiness to go on Pointe, but generally occurs around 14. Once in Pointe it is mandatory to be in two classes a week. Pointe class is separate from ballet technique and has a separate fee per student.
J1 thru J9 – Ages 3rd grade and Up
Jazz is a highly stylized technique of dance usually done to contemporary music. This style includes all the trendy social dances like Hip-Hop, Disco, Swing, and the Lindy. With the influence of Ballet and beats are the result of high-energy and fast paced movement.
The curriculum at TCBS is designed to accommodate every level at every age from 3 years up to Senior Citizens in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop and Pointe. The older students are separated from the younger ones whether experienced or not.
T1 thru T9- Ages 1st grade and Up
Tap is a unique style because of the nature of the sound made from the shoe. By creating sounds and rhythms with the feet, both with and against the music. A vocabulary of single sounds that develops into double, triple and quadruple patterns that are challenging and entertaining for both the dancer and audience.
M1 & M2 -Ages 3rd grade and Up
Modern is a free expressive style, started in the early 20th century as a counter to classical ballet. Performed either bare foot or with a type of leather sandal that allows for initiated movement, breath, integrated body, preference for flow over shape, and counter tension. It has become a resistance to past and the response to the present constantly redefining of the idea of dance.
Adult only classes in Ballet, Jazz and Tap are available. Beginning, intermediate and advanced levels are offered. A great time to relieve stress, lose weight or get movement while having fun.
HH1-HH2-Ages 8th grade and Up
Hip Hop is a high energy movement with different variations of style such as breakin, pop lockin. Hip Hop started with street battles that began in the 80’s and has since expanded into music videos and developed its own vocabulary like the famous moonwalk. It’s found its way off the streets and into the studios choregraphed in our younger jazz classes but taught as a separate class.
